About the building

The building of City Corner offices was built in several phases from the mid 19th century. The building has gained its present look by adding a storey in the 70s and renewal in 2005.
At the current locantion of City Corner building lied the first Common Association (named Köztelek) that was set up by Miklós Wesselényi and Károly Eszterházy, in association with György Károlyi, owner of the manor house on Üllői Road. In 1847 they began building the one-storey headquarters for the Society of Animal Breedres and the Hungarian Economic Association. In 1871-72 the house had been expanded to a three storey building. Here were the official premises of the Hungarian Economic Association, but the building had also served as a home for János Xantus’s and Flóris Rómer’s industrial collections. Recently the building served as the headquarters of Hungarian Standards Institution, nowadays some faculties of Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music have moved in during the reconstruction of their own building on Liszt Ferenc Square.
